      Skills Training:             Determining Soil Types, Filling Out Inspection Forms, and Use of Cave-In Protection Equipment



      This course instructs participants in the requirements for work involving safely working in trenches and excavations, and requirements to protect workers from hazards while working in and around trenches and excavations. It is designed to initiate and/or refresh the participant on subjects that are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 29 CFR 1926.650-652 Subpart P.



      Instructional methods include a combination of lectures, group discussions, hands on activities, and problem-solving sessions.



      After completing the course, participants will be able to:




      • Display extensive knowledge of Regulation 1926 Subpart P

      • Show correct soil testing procedures

      • Identify hazards associated with trenching and excavations

      • Understand the different types of protective systems, concentrating on the ones they will be using
